NCAA Season Start: Colorado State hosts Oregon State Prediction

May the best QB Win!

by Sam Locke

The time between each NCAA football season feels very long indeed, but when you finally see your favorite teams pop up on your Fall TV Schedule you get a nice sweet rush that lasts you all the way up to the holiday bowls. The Oregon State Beavers travel to Colorado State for the opener game in the 2017 calendar. The game will take place this Saturday, August 26th at 2:30 pm EST.

The Colorado State Rams come packed with a brand new stadium and loyal following, prepared to present a very tough challenge to the Beavers, who struggled to get through their own season.

There’s a New Beaver in Town

Coach Gary Andersen does not want a repeat of the Beaver’s poor performance of last season, and he’s made sure to stake his claim at vindication by placing Ventura College star Jake Luton in the QB post. He was chosen over other more household names thanks to his very impressive running game, having scored at least 6 touchdowns during his run with his former team.

Oregon State’s mediocre 4-8 ATS record for last season doesn’t really help their case, neither does the fact that they didn’t win a single road game either. It remains to be seen if Luton may give the Beavers the much-needed edge to save the day.

Colorado State: a Safe Bet

The Rams have little to complain about themselves after a fairly decent run that took them as far as  the Potato Ball; their delivery improved greatly by the end of the season, finishing 7-6 overall. Their offensive can be regarded as slightly better to that of their opponents, having scored 31 points in average per game, compared to Oregon State’s 26 points per game. Receiver Michael Gallup is expected to shine, managing a total 14 touchdowns last year.

My Prediction

The odds give the Colorado State Rams a fair advantage over Oregon State. BETMANIA has the Rams at -4 and a 60 point total for the game. While I do believe that Luton will give Colorado State defense a run for their money, it won’t be nearly enough to withstand a much stouter and experienced team; the added pressure of the loud support of the local fandom won’t make things any easier for the Beavers. Take the Rams minus the points: hard work usually pays off on the playing field.
