The fourth oldest race track in the USA since its opening in 1863, the Saratoga Race Course is a thoroughbred racing track in Saratoga Springs, New York which had already been hosting standardbred racing since 1847. Steeplechase races are also held here, on the inner turf course.

The Saratoga race track abounds in monikers: The Spa, the House of Upsets, and the Graveyard of Champions. The latter was appropriately coined since many famous racehorses lost at this track: Man o’ War (his only defeat in 21 starts), Gallant Fox (a Triple Crown winner), Secretariat (another Triple Crown winner), Rachel Alexandra, and American Pharaoh, to name some.

Some exclusive features of the Saratoga race track include calling jockeys to the paddock using a hand-rung bell, a mineral spring called the Big Red Spring, and a gazebo on the infield, which is part of the Saratoga Racetrack logo.

Saratoga Race Course hosts the Travers Stakes since 1864 (the oldest major thoroughbred race in the United States) on dirt. There is a lake within the track sporting a canoe that is painted in the colors of this stakes’ winning stable. Other major races include the Alabama Stakes, the Hopeful Stakes, and the Whitney Handicap (a qualifier for Breeders' Cup Classic called the "Win and You're In").

Sports Illustrated rated the racetrack as the #10 sports venue of the 20th Century in 1999.
