Golden State Warriors go for Historic Feat Against Cleveland Cavaliers
by Peter Phillips.
After rallying late in the fourth quarter to secure a win against the Cleveland Cavaliers in game 3 of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors will have a chance to become the only team in league history to go undefeated in the playoffs. If they can complete the sweep of the Cavaliers in game 4 of the Finals, which will be played at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland Ohio. The game is scheduled to start at 9 PM. ET.
Betting on the Warriors
Golden State came into the series with a point to prove after blowing a 3-1 lead against the Cavs in the championship last year. The addition of Kevin Durant in the offseason made them the favorites to win it all this year and they have lived up to the hype.
In the first three games of the series, the Warriors are 3-0 ATS, which has made their backers very happy. With the team only one win away from the championship, expect the Warriors to try to end the series on Friday night so they don’t have to deal with questions about another potential collapse.
As the team hoped, Durant has been the difference maker in the series and will likely win the Finals MVP if the Warriors win on Friday. After two comfortable wins at the Oracle Arena, the Warriors expected a tougher challenge from the Cavaliers and had their hands full trying to contain a determined LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in the second half. The Warriors were able to get some key stops down the stretch, and Durant came up big with the 3-point shot while being defended by James, that gave the Warriors the lead for good.
Golden State will try doing a better defensive job on both James and Irving, but as long as they keep the turnovers down and play better defensively, they should be able to pull off the win.
Betting on the Cavaliers
After coasting through the Eastern Conference, the Cavaliers found themselves back in the NBA Finals as most people predicted. Even though they were the betting favorites during the Eastern Conference playoffs, the Cavaliers came into the Finals as underdogs, just like last year.
In the first three games of the NBA Finals, the Cavaliers are 0-3 ATS.
The Cavs have been unable to win a game against Golden State because they haven’t played as well as they did in their previous series. In the first three games, James has been the one constant factor and is averaging a triple double in the series. In the first two games, he got some support from Kevin Love, but Kyrie Irvin wasn’t much of a factor until his brilliant game three performance.
Role players like J.R. Smith, who came up big for Cleveland with his three-point shooting last year, has only scored in double figures once during the series.
The performance that the team put up in game 3 shows that the Cavs can keep up with the Warriors even with Durant in the lineup. If they can give a repeat performance and shoot 3-ponters at or close to the percentage they shot during the regular season, this series is far from over.
Pick and Prediction
The point spread is -6 for the Warriors and +6 for Cleveland.
The money line is -236 for the Warriors and +196 for Cleveland.
Over/under on total points scored is 228.5
The Warriors look primed to sweep the series, but I see them having a letdown on Friday and the Cavs extending their playoff lives by at least one more game. Cavs in a blowout.
