UFC Fight Night 110 Lewis vs. Hunt Main Card Predictions

By Peter Phillips

After an exciting event in Brazil that saw Max Holloway defeat Jose Aldo, the UFC returns this weekend in Australia for UFC Fight Night 110, highlighted by a heavyweight fight between Mark Hunt and up and comer Derrick Lewis.

While the UFC Fight Night 110 Lewis vs. Hunt card might not be as stacked as last week’s card, there are still a lot of fights with the potential to be just as good as the ones we saw last week.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Mizuto Hirota

The main card kicks off with Alexander Volkanovski vs. Mizuto Hirota, which may be closer than a lot of people think. Volkanovski, who has won 11 consecutive fights, will be going for his 12th straight against Hirota, who has won four of his last fights with the fifth finishing in a draw. Despite Volkanovski’s current run, he hasn’t faced a fighter with as much experience as Hirota, which is why I believe Hirota has a better chance than sportsbooks are giving him.

Fight Prediction: Hirota’s submission skills will be the difference maker and will help him get the win.

Tim Elliott vs. Ben Nguyen

Elliot is one of the top fighters in the flyweight division and will be looking to improve his standing with the other contenders in the division. A win over Nguyen will move him up the ladder so look for him to come out and try to make a statement on Saturday.

Nguyen is a heck of a striker and is capable of knocking Elliot out if he makes the mistake of standing up with him. Despite his striking prowess, he isn’t as good as Elliot on the ground or at submissions, which will make it tough for him if the fight goes to the ground.

Fight Prediction: Elliot wins this via submission or decision.

Ion Cutelaba vs. Henrique Da Silva

This is one of the toughest fights to pick on Saturday. Both fighters are very talented buy haven’t looked impressive in their recent fights.

Since both fighters prefer to stand and both have knockout power, I expect to see an all-out brawl, which should make this one of the most exciting fights on the card. Of the two, Cutelaba is the more polished fighter, but Da Silva is very aggressive, which could be a problem for Da Silva.

Fight Prediction: Henrique Da Silva wins by knockout.

Dan Hooker vs. Ross Pearson

This is a classic matchup between a striker and grappler. Pearson will try to be aggressive and keep the fight standing in order to neutralize Hooker’s grappling advantage. If Hooker manages to take the fight to the ground, it will be difficult for Pearson to get a win in this one.

Pearson also hasn’t looked very good lately in his recent fights, so it is hard to predict which Pearson we will see on Saturday. If he is back to his old form, Hooker will have a hard time getting the win.

Fight prediction: Hooker wins a close fight by decision.

Derek Brunson vs. Dan Kelly

Kelly is the hometown favorite in this one, but the big question going into this is: Will he be able to turn back the clock and give one more vintage performance against a younger fighter?

Bronson, who is considered the best fighter in the division should be able to get a pretty convincing win, but after what happened with the Vitor Belfort fight in Brazil last week, don’t be surprised by a little home cooking if the fight goes to the judges.

Fight Prediction: Brunson by decision/submission.

Derrick Lewis vs. Mark Hunt

Like Kelly fight, this is another fight between an aging legend and a younger fighter. Despite his age, Hunt is still one of the most powerful strikers in the UFC and can easily get a knock Lewis out with a flush right. However, Lewis is also a power hitter, has the height and reach advantage, and is younger than Hunt, making him the favorite to win this fight.

Fight Prediction: Lewis by TKO.
