2019 NFL Regular Season Openers Game Previews

Everything’s set for the start of the NFL regular season, and so we’ve prepared a nice preview on two of the most exciting games to watch for in Week 1.

Chiefs vs Jaguars Preview - September 8

The Chiefs had a phenomenal season last year as they finished with 12 wins, and they hope this year things will go the same, and even better for them.

Kansas City is starting its regular-season schedule vs. the Jaguars, at TIAA Bank Field, but despite beginning the season on the road, the Chiefs are one of the top favorites to make it to the Super Bowl and are the favorites to win this match.

Now, this will be the seventh season for Andy Reid as the head coach of the Chiefs, and just last year this team managed to win the AFC West division title for the third time in a row.

Also, Patrick Mahomes turned into one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL, earning the MVP honors thanks to a record that included 50 passes completed, and the second-best record in passing yards with 5,097.
When it comes to the Jaguars, the team had an awful time last season, and that had a lot to do with Blake Bortles’s performance.

But Bortles is out of the team (now with the Rams), and now the starting quarterback duties in Jacksonville have been handled to veteran Nick Foles, the recipient of the MVP award at Super Bowl 52.

Foles was terrible when he performed as the starter for the Rams back in 2015, but his level has improved considerably as the second string for the Eagles.

And now he has the chance to shine as a starter once again for the Jags.

Chargers vs. Colts Preview - September 8

The season is starting in the worst possible way for the Colts: Their first game of the regular season will be on the road at Dignity Health Sports Park, against the Chargers, one of the current title contenders.

And their superstar quarterback retired a couple of weeks before the start of the regular season!

Indeed, this was definitely one of the top games to watch for in Week 1, but after Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement from football, the Chargers are favorites to win this match, and also one of the favorites teams to make it far in the postseason.

Before Luck’s retirement, Indianapolis was considered a title contender with 12-1 odds, but after Luck made it official, things went completely south for the Colts at 60-1 odds, right there with the Jets.

This is an indication that oddsmakers don’t favor Jacoby Brissett all that much under center for Indy, this despite a solid 2017, when he got the starting role after Luck missed the season due to shoulder injury.

The Chargers are the top team of the team as they lead this series 18-11, but Indy is 7-6 on the road, that is, with Luck on the field.

Chargers:

  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of LA Chargers' last 12 games.
  • LA Chargers are 12-3 SU in their last 15 games.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of LA Chargers' last 5 games against Indianapolis.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of LA Chargers' last 5 games at home.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of LA Chargers' last 5 games when playing at home against Indianapolis.
  • LA Chargers are 10-3 SU in their last 13 games against an opponent in the AFC conference.
  • LA Chargers are 17-2-1 ATS in their last 20 games against an opponent in the AFC South division.
  • LA Chargers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games played in September.
  • LA Chargers are 1-5 SU in their last 6 games played in week 1.
