Santa Rosa is home to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. This is a fairground and exhibition center located in Santa Rosa, California where the annual Sonoma County fair takes place. Other events that take, or have taken place throughout the year, including The Gravenstein Apple Show Classic, which was held at the fairgrounds as part of the Sonoma County Fair, until 1938. Historically, the fairgrounds have held horse races since 1936, and horse racing is still held throughout the duration of the fair.
The fairgrounds feature a golf course, several open-air amphitheaters, and several halls. The largest one is Grace Pavilion, which is an indoor arena with a seating capacity of 4,400. It hosts fair exhibits and concerts, fights, and other events throughout the year. And, it also has a horse-racing track and jockey club. Horse racing is a major and popular part of the festivities at the fair. The Santa Rosa racetrack is part of the fair proceedings and key to ‘Wine Country Racing’. The racetrack also offers dining facilities. Dining is taken care of by the Turf Club and the Jockey Club.
There is currently the main track at the fairgrounds, oval and one mile in length. It also has two chutes, one for 6-furlong races and the other for 1-¼ mile races. Races take place seven days a week, all throughout the duration of the Sonoma County Fair. The Jockey Club also offers year-round pari-mutuel wagering on horse races.
