Ten races are left to qualify for the 'Run for Roses' to fill the 20 spots to that line up at the gates. The last qualifying race was on June 27 at the Ohio Derby won by Dean Martini.

Each race gives a variety of qualifying points to each of the first four horses that cross the finish line. Depending on the track, points go from 10 to 100 for the first place.

When discussing early Kentucky Derby odds and favorites to win this year's edition, we must look, imperatively, to the first jewel of the 2020 Triple Crown.

Belmont Stakes winner Tiz The Law is +350 as the odds-on favorite to win at Churchill Downs. Tiz The Law was a heavy Triple Crown contender from way before it started, but his status rose like foam after the Belmont win.

Following Tiz, The Law, Honor A.P. is +500. This three-year-old didn't participate in Belmont and is fresh coming into the second jewel. Honor A.P. has one win and one runner-up place in 2020, both in Santa Anita.

The third favorite is another Belmont Stakes skipper, in Authentic (+800). Authentic has two wins and one second place in his three starts in 2020. However, his last competition, the Santa Anita Derby, saw him come second, and his momentum was derailed a bit.

A distant fourth favorite is Dr. Post, with a +1500 listed on his side. The thoroughbred is a longshot, but when it comes to 2020, he has two wins and one second place and jockeyed by coveted Irad Ortiz Jr. it is one to watch.

The Road to Kentucky Derby has ten races left with only three 100-point race. Blue Grass on Keeneland, Haskell Invitational on Monmouth Park, and Travers Stakes on Saratoga will probably be the deciding competitions to fill the 20 spots available to go down at Churchill Downs.
