Chicago Cubs Betting Odds

As one of the original franchises of the National League when it began to play in 1876, the Chicago Cubs were first known as the White Stockings and played their home games out of 23rd Street Grounds in Chicago. After winning titles in 1907 and 1908, the team went on a Championship drought that lasted until just recently, when the Cubs finally won again in 2016. History

The White Stockings were formed in 1870 as a club and joined the National League upon its inception in 1876. Over the next 10 years, the team won 6 NL Pennants. They changed their name to the Colts in 1890 and 1898 after a change of ownership they changed their name again, this time to the Orphans. After the creation of the American League and yet another change in ownership in 1902 this time to Albert Spalding of the Spalding sports goods company, the team settled on the name “Cubs”. Under Spalding the Cubs flourished, winning two World Series and four pennants in that time. World Series was around that time that the team began playing games in what is now Wrigley Field. The Cubs still went on to win the pennant in 1929, ’32,’35’, ’38, and ’45 but never returned to a World Series for the remainder of the century.

Titles

The Cubs returned to the World Series in 2016, it was a thing of legends; they rode a 103-58 record to a first-place finish in the NL Central. It was the first time the team had reached 100 wins in a season since 1935. The Cubs beat the Giants in the Divisional Series before taking on the Dodgers in the NLCS and beating them in six games.

That win advanced the Cubs to the World Series for the first time since 1945 and pitted them against the Cleveland Indians, another team with a long championship drought. The last time the Indians had won the World Series was in 1948. The Cubs came back from being down three games to one to win the series, taking a game seven that went into extra innings. The win made them the first team to come back from a three to one deficit since the Kansas City Royals did it in 1985.

Famous players

The Chicago Cubs have as rich a roster of alumni players as any other team in the league. Fifty former players and managers have Hall of Fame Plaques, 14 of which are depicted in Cubs uniforms. Among the more prevalent are Cap Anson, who played for a record 27 consecutive seasons, Ernie Banks, who was one of the greatest players to appear after desegregation and hit 512 career home runs, Billy Williams was a Rookie of the year and 6 time all-star and Greg Maddux, who spent his first 6 years with the Cubs and went on to win 6 Cy Young awards.

Other more modern names that come to mind when thinking about the Cubs are Sammy Sosa, Kerry Wood, and Mark Grace.
