The Miami Marlins are one of the youngest franchises in Major League Baseball, yet they already have two World Series Titles to their record. History

In 1993 the Florida Marlins began playing games at Joe Robbie Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. They selected their players from an expansion draft that allowed them to pick from both AL and NL teams. They finished in second to last place their first season in the league, but only four seasons later found themselves with a 92-70 record, good enough for a Wild Card spot in the NL, which they propelled into a Championship run. In 2003 they had a similar situation, finishing second in the NL East behind he Braves, yet went on defeat the Yankees in the World Series. The unorthodox route to victory that the team took in those two runs gives them a unique statistic; they are the only team to have won multiple World Series without ever having won their division.

In 2012 the Marlins moved to Pro Player Stadium, located in downtown Miami, and subsequently changed their names to the Miami Marlins.

Titles

1997 was an improbable year in many ways for the Marlins. In only their 5th season playing Major League baseball, they hired former Pittsburgh Pirates Manager Jim Leyland as their manager and picked up Bobby Bonilla, Moises Alou, and Alex Fernandez in the offseason. Those three helped lead a team mostly still made up of expansion draft players to the postseason, where they swept the Giants in the division series, 3-0. They then took down the Atlanta Braves 4 games to 2 in the ALCS and then the Indians in seven games in the final.

After the win, the Marlins sold off a number of their top players and went back into rebuild mode, which didn’t last long. In 2003 they were already back in the mix, having acquired Ivan Rodriguez in the offseason. They started the year out slow but slowly came around as the season went on. By season’s end, they were ten games behind the Braves but still in possession of a Wild Card Berth. In the divisional series, the Marlins surprised the Giants three games to one. In the NLCS that year, the Marlins faced the Cubs in one of the more memorable series in baseball history. The series went to seven games, with game six gaining national attention for an incident in which Cubs fan Steve Bartman reached out and prevented Cubs LF Moises Alou from making an out, which set off a Marlins rally. They would go on to win both games six and seven en route to defeating the Yankees in a six-game World Series.

Famous players

Despite such a short history, the Marlins have had several players of note on their roster. Miguel Cabrera, Giancarlo Stanton, Gary Sheffield, and Ivan Rodriguez are a few of the names that have blessed Marlin's rosters over the years.
