AFC East: Patriots Lose Their First, Dolphins Finally Won

Week 9 of the current NFL season had in store two of the biggest surprises this season so far, and both included AFC East teams. One of these is the first victory of the Dolphins, who had to lose seven straight before getting this win. The second most important event of the week was, of course, the loss of the Patriots, their first defeat after eight straight victories.

Let’s start with what everybody is most interested in: the 37-20 loss of the Pats to the Ravens. They had to lose sometime, and at least it was against one of the current top teams in the league. This was an amazing game for a Baltimore tight end, Nick Boyle, who scored the first touchdown of his career on the first play of the fourth quarter on Sunday night. Boyle made some comments before the match, just like he was able to anticipate exactly what the Ravens had in store for the Pats: “We’ll see how good they are once we play them. I don’t think they’ve seen anyone like our offense or like Lamar.”

Indeed, Lamar Jackson was superior to Tom Brady, allowing his team to defeat the current NFL champions. Now the Pats are headed to their BYE week, giving them the right time to analyze what went down in Baltimore, and trying to figure out how to correct those defensive mistakes. They want to get their defense as accurate as possible now because this game to the Ravens marked the start of the most challenging stretch of New England’s schedule.

Dolphins and Their First Win

While things got complicated for the best team at the AFC East, one of the two worst teams of this division was facing the other one and was able to defeat it.

Yes, the Fins were playing the Jets, and the team from Miami are no longer without victories as they managed to take down the Jets 26-18.

The man of the night was Ryan Fitzpatrick, as the Dolphins quarterback finished with three completed touchdown passes, including two to rookie Preston Williams. The win is even more special for the Fins as it came versus a team that’s run by their former coach, Adam Gase. With the victory, the Dolphins avoided their second-worst franchise start as they went 0-8 back in 2007.

This win is also leaving the Bengals as the only team that’s still missing a positive result this season, meaning that Cincinnati is the current favorite to get the first overall pick at the 2020 NFL draft. The Jets, on the other hand, did match their second-worst start in the history of the New York franchise as they went 0-8 back in 1996, and have also gone 1-7 five more times, the most recent one in 2014. This also marked the fourth straight victory from the Dolphins over the Jets.

Now the Jets are headed to a game versus the Colts at Week 10. And this can be quite positive as the Colts are down in their spirits after acquiring their third loss of the season as they got defeated 26-24 by the Steelers at Week 9.
