2019 MLB World Series Game 6: Can Strasburg Even the Series?

2019 MLB World Series Game 6: Can Strasburg Even the Series?
This has been a frustrating World Series for the fans. The fans that went to the local ballpark that is. The reason? Their teams have been getting wins on the road and losing at home!

First, the Nationals took games 1 and 2 at Houston. Then was the turn of the Astros to do what most people thought it was impossible by winning three straight at Washington. They are now one victory away from getting the Commissioner’s Trophy for the second time in the past three seasons.

So, after being close to pulling off a historic upset, now things are genuinely uphill for Washington. They need to win two games in a row in Houston. Two games versus Cy Young winners Zack Greinke and Justin Verlander. No easy task at all indeed.

Max Scherzer Is Out for Game 6, But Strasburg Is Ready

After suffering neck spasms, Max Scherzer was scratched from his start in Game 5 of the World Series. This injury came in the worst possible of times, precisely when the Nats needed Scherzer to play and to play at his best. Sherzer, who has proved time and time again that he can play even when going through some mild pain, was hurting too much to perform.

Joe Ross took over for him at Game 5, and even though he was not terrible, he did allow a pair of two-run home runs. Ross did not challenge Astros starter Gerrit Cole appropriately, the way Scherzer might have done.

What’s worst is that Scherzer’s injury not only forced Nats manager Dave Martinez to force Ross into a spot start. But he was also forced to tweak his entire rotation for the rest of the series.

So, who’s taking over Scherzer at Game 6? The answer: Stephen Strasburg. He must pitch well during the sixth game of this series or everything will be over for Washington, period. The positive note is that Strasburg already outpitched Justin Verlander during this series, specifically at Game 2. To give Nats fans new hope, Washington hasn’t lost a postseason match in which Strasburg has appeared since Game 1 of the 2017 NLDS.

World Series Game 6: Betting Notes

According to expert stats, the Nationals have a low 19% chance of getting the World Series title. And right now they are big betting underdogs.

The Astros, on the other hand, are currently favored to take the Fall Classic, with 81% chances of doing so, mainly because they’re closing at home.

Pitchers

Houston Astros / Justin Verlander: This player allowed four earned runs in 6 innings during Game 2, with two of those runs coming in the seventh.

The ERA for Verlander right now is 4.15 in the playoffs, struck out 6 hitters in 6 innings during game 2. And, has allowed 6 home runs during his last 4 playoff games.

Washington Nationals / Stephen Strasburg: He was able to throw 6 innings of 2-run in the 12-3 victory for the Nats. During his Game 2 start, he allowed 9 ground balls and 9 fly balls in play to Astros batters. He also has forty strikeouts with only 2 walks during his 28 playoff innings.

So, can Strasburg lead the Astros and help extend the series to a seventh game? Or will Verlander become the town hero in Houston by handling his team a win that can also mean the championship title?
